The Relationship between Stomach Diseases and Blood-groups in Koreans
Berg, Atle
Abstract
A most interesting recent discovery concerning peptic ulcer has been the correlation of the disease with blood-groups,
A British surgeon, Aird, and his coworker, showed in 1953 an increased liability to gastric cancer of Group A persons compared with 0 and B groups, and this was followed by a similar survey for proved cases of peptic ulcer, in which group A and group B persons were found to be less liable than group 0.
These findings have been confirmed by many others who have arrived at the view that duodenal ulcer is 1,4 times greater and gastric ulcer 1;2 times greater with group 0 than with other groups. Other authors, have, however, concluded that such a relationship between stomach cancer, peptic ulcer and blood-groups hardly exists.
Therefore, it might be of interest to investigate the relationship between the above mentioned gastric diseases and the blood-groups by a material of gastric diseases from N. M. C. .
The figures are made up ,on our, first 200 resected stomachs. The .diagnosis of the lesion is based upon an extensive histological examination of the specimen obtained by the resection..
